Rex Skin Care was delighted to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami during its annual fundraiser called the Big Event. Rex Skin Care donated a basket of all its products for the silent auction. The event was held at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. A fireworks extravaganza announced dinner following an incredible cocktail reception. Dinner was held inside the arena itself as the space was transformed into uber-exlclusive retreat with a party atmosphere. The children of Big Brothers Big Sisters performed a percussion performance of the Lion King during dinner and DJ Irie spun an eclectic mix of songs following dinner. The Rex Skin Care team attended the event and had an enjoyable evening. We love supporting such a worthy charity.

7 out of 10 men are buying Skin Care products for themselves

That’s a 6% increase over last year.

Port Washington, NY, August 23, 2012 – The NPD Group, Inc., a leading market research company, released results on the men’s skincare market. On track with the sales in the men’s current retail business, men’s skincare sales increased six percent year-to-date (January through July) 2012, compared to the same time last year, generating $45.5 million. In addition, NPD found that at least seven in 10 men are buying facial skincare products for themselves. Today’s man is more concerned than ever with looking good from head to toe and is willing to invest in high-end skincare products.

“The growth in men’s skincare sales echoes the strong performance in the overall prestige beauty market,” said Karen Grant, vice president and senior global industry analyst, The NPD Group.  “As seen in many beauty departments, products like facial moisturizers and eye treatments can be found next to the basic bar soap and shaving cream.”

All men’s segments posted increases in dollars in the first seven months of the year, versus January through July of 2011, with four exceeding the overall category performance: Sets & Kits (+11%), Body (+14%), Sun (+27%), and Hair (+8%). Face, was the only category that did not outperform the total, but captured the lion’s share of the men’s business, totaling 81 percent dollar share. The Face segment generated $36.7 million and increased +5 percent year-to-date 2012.

“Many men are catching up to women with embracing the routine of a facial skincare regimen. The double-digit increase in sets and kits, which are often introductory products, is quite promising leading us to believe that more and more men are conquering the facial skincare frontier,” said Grant.

Among the top 10 men’s sub-segments, six out-performed the category: Facial Moisturizers (+7%), Eye Treatment (+16%), All Other Body* (+13%), Body Cleansers (+16%), and All Other Face** (+30%). For the first time in the last four years, the sub-segment of Age Specialist, declined in both dollar (-21%) and unit growth (-25%)

“With substantial growth in a number of smaller categories, it seems that men are stepping out of their comfort zone even further to try the latest skincare innovations,” said Grant. “Men are purchasing toners and clarifiers to brightening specialists and ‘In Sun’ protection products making it quite an interesting time for men’s grooming product.”

After an internship with one of the world’s largest cosmetic companies, Gary took her degree in Finance from Fordham University and carved out a successful career on Wall Street. Upon completion of her M.B.A. and a second Masters in Accounting from University of Miami she worked for one of the world’s largest accounting firms. Yet despite her professional success, she felt unfulfilled, regretting that she didn’t pursue her passion in the beauty industry.

International philanthropist with experience in beauty pageants, Monica Heftler has been a force in the “world of beauty” and is deeply involved in the arts and a number of charitable endeavors. Seeking a new challenge, she contemplated buying an existing skin care company because of her affinity for one of its products. The friends dreamed about teaming up to pursue their ardor and live their dream, then fate fashioned the decision.

At a charity event, the women met actor Andres Garcia, Jr.  In the course of cocktail party small talk, they complimented him on his healthy looking skin. “I realized I had left work in a hurry and had forgotten to remove my on-screen makeup,” Garcia said.  As he shared his experience about repeatedly applying heavy makeup and the toll on his skin of the intense cleaning regimen that follows, the pair began to see their future in epiphany-like clarity. Combining their entrepreneurial zeal, financial expertise and social connections, along with input from a man who is the ideal client, Rex Skin Care was born. “Meeting Andres turned the Make-up mirror light on for us.  He insisted that men – all men – could use a skin cleansing and enhancing system, one that’s easy but still masculine.”

Developed in conjunction with leading medical specialists, using the highest quality ingredients and no harsh chemicals, Rex Skin Care products are designed and scientifically formulated, based on the biology of men’s skin. The products combat the effects of environmental toxins and leave skin looking healthier and younger. The line was released with three formulations, but other products are in development and nearing launch.

“We produce Rex Skin Care products in small quantities to assure maximum potency and freshness ,” Gary explains, “We achieved a balance between not compromising the product’s integrity and using minimal preservatives for the longer shelf life that major retailers require.”

Even the presentation was designed especially for men. The highly-concentrated Vitamin C Moisturizer, Matte Finish Serum and Instant Impact products are creatively and uniquely packaged in cigar tubes, making them extremely portable, convenient, masculine and discreet. When Heftler and Gary settled on their formulas, they went back to Garcia, for his professional opinions. A model and actor since the age of nine, the American-born Garcia–along with his brother and father–worked in the movies and television in Mexico, before returning to the States for access to the broader South Florida-based production industry.  His experiences of applying and removing heavy on-screen makeup, sometimes for days at a time, and the rigorous skin cleansing that went along with it, was utilized in the product design.
